Spring is here! How to protect your eyes from seasonal irritation
Spring has arrived—bringing brighter sunlight, birdsong, and blossoms. But along with all that beauty can come something less pleasant: irritated eyes. If you suffer from allergies, you may notice watery, red, or itchy eyes this time of year. The culprits? Pollen, sunlight, and wind can all trigger discomfort. The good news: it’s usually nothing serious and can be managed easily.
Suffering from hay fever?
When your eyes detect dust, pollen, or other irritants, they produce extra tears to protect themselves. This tear fluid works like a natural rinse, washing away particles and keeping the eyes lubricated.
If you’re allergic to pollen, you may experience watery or red eyes, often alongside sneezing, coughing, and itching. But hay fever isn’t the only cause—dust mites, certain cosmetics, or even some foods can also make your eyes more sensitive.
Strong wind or bright sunlight can trigger the same reaction. Thankfully, this type of tearing usually stops as soon as you’re out of the irritating conditions.
Our tips for irritated eyes
1. Protect your eyes
Wearing glasses or sunglasses can shield your eyes from pollen, wind, and harsh sunlight, helping prevent redness and watering. All our lenses come with a built-in UV filter as standard—even our transparent ones—giving you extra protection.
2. Don’t rub!
It’s tempting to rub irritated eyes, but this can actually make things worse. Let your eyes do their natural job of flushing out irritants.
3. Use eye drops
The right eye drops can soothe irritation and reduce redness. If you’re not sure which ones to choose, we’re happy to advise you.
